Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a standard applicable to all kinds of textiles along all stages of the production chain, i.e. for raw materials, intermediate products, and ready-made products. The label "Confidence in Textiles- Tested for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex 100," thus can be found on both garments and home textiles. Products meeting the requirements of Oeko-Tex Standard 100 standards are allowed to use the Oeko-Tex label. The Oeko-Tex 100 label assures the consumer that the product has been manufactured with a reduced use of chemicals compared with traditional methods, and therefore lessens health risk.

One of the recent developments in this industry is the development of the Global Organic Textile Standard. The global organic textile standards were developed to unify organic standards within this industry so that manufacturers can market their products to different countries under one certification that is acceptable in all major markets of the world.

Before the introduction of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), manufacturers needed different certifications to market in different countries. GOTS is a large scale effort to unify organic standards in the textile and garment industry.

To ensure the organic status of textiles, GOTS has laid down requirements for the harvesting of raw material, production, processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and export and import of fibre products, yarns, fabrics and clothes.
